Notes to Know From Mrs. Disney
Nightly Reading, Nightly Folder, and Behavior Calendar
Your child will bring home their Nightly Folder each night. Please check it for nightly reading, newsletters, completed work, etc. If you need to send anything to me, please send it in the folder. Thanks!
-Each night (Monday -Thursday) your child will bring home one nightly reading book to share with your family. These books need to be read each night. A reading partner needs to sign the log, and return both into the ziploc bag.
This needs to be placed into the Return To School side of their folder.
-Each child will be bringing home a Behavior Calendar in their folder. Please look at what “color” your child is on for the day and discuss this with your child. Please initial and return the calendar in the left pocket of the folder.
Backpacks and Toys
-Each child will need a backpack (no wheels please) large enough to hold their nightly folder. PLEASE make sure your child has their backpack with them each day at school. I do not have a problem with children bringing toys to play with at recess when the weather turns cold. However, they are not to be out of their backpack during instructional time. If they are, I will take away the toy. Also, children need to be reminded that they are responsible for any toys that are brought to school. Things do get misplaced and broken. Your child is also allowed to being a bottle or water to keep in their backpack, instead of using the water fountains.
Daily Attendance and Breakfast
Attendance is determined by the minutes that your child is at school. Our day begins promptly at 7:45 a.m. and ends at 2:45 p.m. If your child arrives late or leaves early, they will be considered tardy and this will be reflected on the attendance portion of their report card. Perfect Attendance is defined as NO tardies and NO absences. If your child is going to eat breakfast at school, they should arrive no later that 7:20 a.m. This will give them time to eat and be in the gym on time for Morning Meeting. Parents will have only 3 days to submit any excuses for an absence or tardy.
Any excuse received after day 3 may not be accepted. Also, students are allowed to have 5 parent notes for absences per semester.
Parent Pick Up and Transportation
All children are assigned a pick up number and tags with this number. Please hang this tag from your rear-view mirror when you pick up your child. ANY changes to your child’s afternoon transportation MUST be sent to me in writing. I understand that last minute changes do occasionally occur. PLEASE do not email me regarding emergency changes.
Spelling Lists and Sight Words
We will begin studying spelling words early in the school year. After I have time to determine the instructional needs of each child, we will have modified lists. I will let you know what list your child will be learning from.
Sight word lists will also be sent home. These are individualized for each child. They will be given new sight
words, as each word is mastered. Spelling tests and sight words checks will be done on Fridays.
Volunteers
If you would like to volunteer in our classroom please let me know. Each volunteer must complete a background check prior to assisting in the classroom. We can use parents to listen to readers, help with centers, and prepare
supplies. All family members wanting to attend field trips MUST also have a background check completed and on file.
Birthday Party Guidelines
Birthdays are very special days, and each child deserves to be recognized on their special day. If you would
like to send a treat for the class on their birthday, please contact me. PLEASE do not send homemade treats. Due to food allergies, I am often required to read labels before serving students. Thank you for understanding.
